Warm Up Exercises Before Running!
When considering going for a run, often times we go out and just take off. We forget about the importance of warming up our muscles before taking off. Warming up your muscles is a great way to prevent injuries.
Here are 3 of my favorite warm up exercise before each run.
Stand tall; then raise your knees up towards your chest. Do 10 reps on each side.
Toe Touches/High Kicks:
Standing tall; then swing your leg straight up in the air. Use your hand to try to touch your toes. Do 10 reps on each side.
Stand tall; then walk forward and swing your heels up towards your buttocks. Do 10 reps on each side.
These exercises help to get the quads, hamstring and the hips ready before taking off on your run.
Another quick way to warm up is to walk for 3 to 5 minutes before hand. Take a 1 or 2 minutes to also walk backwards. Why should you walk backwards? Since we are always moving forward those are the only muscles that are actively being used. Walking backwards gets those forgotten muscles to fire up.
Did you know?
That if you are suffering from shin splints; walking backwards for up to 5 minutes can help alleviate the pain.
